Current Recruiting Process

The Alvin Police Department currently has posted openings for two Patrol Officer positions. Testing dates to be determined.

Upon completion of the physical agility test, applicants will be allowed one hour and fifteen minutes to clean up and return to the Alvin Police Department. Applicants will be advised whether they passed or failed the physical agility test. Those passing will be invited to take the Writing Skills and Reading Comprehension examinations. Applicants passing those examinations will be notified of oral interview dates, to be determined.

Unless noted above, there is currently not a Police Officer, Communication Officer, or Detention Officer hiring process in progress.

However, anyone interested in one of these positions with the Alvin Police Department is encouraged to submit an application with the City of Alvin Personnel Department. When there is not a hiring process in progress, the City of Alvin will accept and hold applications for up to six months. When applicable, the applicants will be notified by mail of the next hiring process. The letter will advise the time of the written entry test and other pertinent information as available. If you have not been contacted within six months, you are required to submit another application.

Applications may be obtained in person at the Personnel Department located at the City Hall located at 216 W. Sealy in Alvin, or to download a PDF version of the application, click
here. Personnel may be contacted via telephone at (281) 388-4295. Applications may be submitted in person or mailed to the above address.

Note - the application must state which position the applicant is interested in (police officer, communication officer, or detention officer). If an applicant is interested in more than one position, then an application must be completed for each position (applications are filed according to position requested). An application without this information will not be considered.

Recruiting Process Summary
The Alvin Police Department normally holds one to two police officer processes a year. We currently advertise personnel vacancies in various local papers and The Blues police newspaper, as well as through local law enforcement academies. You may also contact the City of Alvin Personnel Office at 281-388-4200 for more initial applicant information.

The Alvin PD police officer hiring process consists of an initial application being processed through the City's Personnel Office which are then forwarded to the Police Department after a specific closing date. (To download a PDF version of the application, click here)

APD then conducts a written examination of the initial applicants and a physical agility test. The top scorers (numbers determined by scores, number of applicants and/or positions) then go through an interview process with the Chief and a citizen/police oral review board. The finalists are then offered conditional employment and are required to complete a Personal History Statement and are scheduled for polygraph examinations. At the conclusion of the background process, the successful applicants are given psychological and medical examinations and then scheduled for the 13-week field training program.
