PCC and ITC Equipment List
Mandatory and Recommended
Officer’s Individual Equipment:
ü ANSI or SNELL approved helmet
ü Shatter-resistant glasses or sunglasses
ü Cycling gloves (with moderate padding – too much padding can effect the grip on your firearm)
ü *Complete gun belt, including a flashlight (preferably one that can be carried on the belt)
Tools:
ü Spare tube: two tubes are better and rubber tire liners are nice also (Flats WILL happen).
ü Chain tool
ü 8, 10, 12mm bicycle wrenches
ü 4, 6, 8mm Allen wrenches
ü Tire repair patch kit: glue or glue-less (no gels)
ü Air Pump or similar-functioning device
ü Slotted and Phillips screwdrivers
ü 3 Tire levers
ü *Headlight system and rear red reflector (or red LED light)
Bicycle:
ü Bicycle must be from a reputable manufacturer: No Huffys, Murrays, or other department store bicycles.
ü Bicycle must be properly fit to the rider: When the officer straddles the top tube (If you slide forward off of the seat you will straddle the top tube) there should be at least 2”, but not more than about 4” of clearance between the officer’s crotch and the frame.
ü Bicycle must be in good working order: Either a new bike or one that has been recently inspected by a certified bike mechanic.
ü Bicycle must have pedal-retention system: Toe clips (stirrups) are recommended and clip-less pedals are not recommended.
ü Bicycle must have street or street/off-road combination tires: No knobbies. The best all-around police mountain bike tire is street tire.
ü Must have at least two water bottles or similar hydration system: Camelbaks are fine, but for the ITC water bottles will be sufficient.
Comfortable clothing (t-shirt, shorts….) is acceptable for both courses and quality padded cycling (or compression) shorts are strongly recommended. Avoid baggy clothing or loose fitting clothes. In the cold weather layer your clothing; the more you ride the more heat you generate so layering is important.
*Mandatory for the nighttime portion of the 40-hour course only
